Reclaimed Railway Sleeper 2.4m x 200mm x 100mm

Reclaimed ex-railway hardwood sleepers, 2400mm long x 200mm wide x 100mm thick (roughly 8ft x 8in x 4in).

These have already spent decades under railway track, which is the best durability test a piece of timber can get. Dense hardwood, thoroughly weathered, and with the marks to show for it — bolt holes, plate impressions, old fixings and a worn surface that no new timber can imitate.

Every sleeper is different. Expect variation in colour, grain and wear, and the odd split or chip. That character is the point.

Best suited to retaining walls, garden steps, edging, borders and low walls.

A note on use: older railway sleepers were treated with creosote, which has a strong smell in warm weather and shouldn't be used where food is grown or where children play. If you're building raised beds for vegetables, our new oak or treated softwood is the better choice.

Every piece we make is built from reclaimed timber, so no two are identical. Grain, colour and markings vary from board to board — that variation is the point, not a fault. Made to order in our Kent workshop by qualified carpenters.

Reclaimed timber is a natural material and will move slightly with temperature and humidity. Indoors, dust with a dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Outdoors, treat annually with a suitable exterior oil to protect against weathering. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.

Orders placed before 2:00pm are typically dispatched the same working day. Smaller items are sent via DPD and usually arrive within 3-5 working days. Larger products, including boards, decking and poles, are delivered using our own transport, and we’ll contact you after your order is placed to arrange a convenient delivery date.

If you’re based in the surrounding London area, we may also be able to offer same-day delivery, subject to availability. You’re also welcome to collect your order from our Kent workshop - simply get in touch beforehand so we can arrange a suitable collection time and have your order ready for your arrival.
